Choosing the correct book for your mini-musician is an important task. Both the Playbooks and the Piano-In-Color book, feature the same melodies and teach the students to play 1o notes in C Position. The differences are outlined below.
The Piano-In-Color: Music Lessons for Mini-Musicians book has been used with preschoolers as young as 3½ years old, as well as with older students with learning delays. This is a pre-reading book, which means that the students will learn how to play numerous melodies following the color-notes, but they will not learn how to read music with this book.
This is a great book for Mommy-and-Me or Daddy-and-Me times where parent and student can make music together, working through the book at their own pace. It is also a good book for small group classes. Several teachers and parents use these books for students with learning disabilities.
The Color Piano PlayBooks were initially created for 4½-year-old Jasmine, who wanted to learn real notes like her big sister. Book 1 teaches students to read the treble clef and Book 2 teaches the bass clef.
At first, notes are "rainbow-colored" but as the student progresses through the book, more and more black notes are introduced. Towards the end of the books, the student will be playing using only "black-and-white" music, and on completion, the student will have learned to read music from the staff.
