The Piano In Color pre-reading method helps preschoolers to feel comfortable playing the keys without taking on the task of reading music.
The children learn 5 notes with each hand using a color/number system corresponding to the 5 finger numbers. The musical staff is not covered, but towards the end of the book, note names C, D, E, F and G are introduced. Simple musical concepts such as note positioning (higher/lower on the page), rests, dynamics and fingering area also covered throughout the book. |
The Piano In Color Parent/Teacher Guide is specially written for parents who do not have a musical background. This easy to read manual contains the guidelines you need to teach your mini-musician to play the songs in the Piano In Color: Music Lessons for Mini-Musicians book. Piano Teachers can also take advantage of the exercises, activities and games included. Pat-a-Cake, sing-a-longs, board games, clapping, tapping, marching, jumping, stomping and duets will make teaching preschoolers a rewarding experience for both you and your students. |

The notes are introduced one at a time beginning with right hand Red Note. The Red Note has the number 1 on it. So use finger 1 (your thumb) to play the "red" piano key. When you see the zig-zag rest symbol, stop playing and say "Freeze" or "Rest", and then move on to play the next note. Try playing through Red Note. Click the player below to hear what it should sound like. |
3.
Once you can comfortably play Red Note from start to end, you are ready to try it with the play-along track. Click on the video to listen to Kayla as she plays with the play-along track. |
